Penn State Celebrates International Women's Day with the Spirit of Internationalization Award

International Women's Day is a wonderful chance to celebrate the great strides that nations around the world have made in advancing educational, economic, and political opportunities for women, in addition to improving access to health care and protection from violence. It is a time to show support for continuing advancement in these areas. More and more societies agree that opportunities in education, participation in public life, and control over personal choices are basic rights for women. Our solidarity with women around the world can help make this a reality.

Penn State's International Women's Day Celebration includes the chance to honor six women from the University and local community who embody the "Spirit of Internationalization" through academic achievements, artistic excellence, volunteerism in international organizations, or dedication to advancing the status of women. Women who've won these awards truly represent an international ideal, and their impressive accomplishments are shared at the annual International Women's Day Breakfast, sponsored each year by the Directorate of Global Relations and Promotion in the University Office of Global Programs (UOGP). UOGP is joined in selecting the Award winners by representatives from the Center for Women Students, the Centre County League of Women Voters, Global Connections, the Commission for Women, and Graduate Women in Science.
